FAQs

What is Power Saver?
Power Saver is a feature that saves you money by reducing the amount of energy your TV Box uses by automatically powering it down when it's not in use. You'll know when your X1 TV Box is powered down because the green/blue/white power light on the front panel of the device will be off. (When the green/blue/white power light is on, the device is powered up.)

How do I turn on Power Saver?
To turn Power Saver on:
  • Navigate to Settings > Device Settings > Power Preferences > Power Saver > ON.
  • Once your TV Box is powered down, turn it back on by pressing any button on your remote control.
  • Note: New X1 TV Box installations will default to Power Saver "On".

How much energy can be saved with Power Saver?
Your energy savings depend on the specific X1 TV Box type (DVR or non-DVR), how much time the device is powered down and what activities are going on behind the scenes (such as scheduled recordings). Because of these variables, we can't say exactly how much energy your TV Box saves when powered down. However, to maximize your energy savings, you should always power down your TV Box when you are done watching TV.

What happens when my X1 TV Box is inactive for a long period of time?
There are two modes for your TV Box when there has been no activity for four hours. Power Saver Mode, which conserves your power, and Nap Mode, which does not save power.

Your TV Box will automatically go into Nap Mode after four hours of inactivity if you do not have Power Saver on. If Power Saver mode is on, you will see an "Are You Still There?" message on your screen. If you do not respond to this message, your TV Box will go into Power Saver mode.

When you wake up your TV Box from either mode, you’ll see a “Welcome Back” message on the top of your screen.

Will my recordings still happen if my X1 TV Box is powered down?
Absolutely! Powering down will not affect the critical background services provided by your TV Box, like recording your favorite TV programs - or playing on other devices via AnyRoom DVR.

Should I turn my X1 TV Box off when I am done watching TV?
Yes - power savings depend to a large degree on how much time the device is powered down. To maximize your savings, always power down your TV Box when you are done watching TV. You can do this simply by saying "power down" into your Xfinity Voice Remote. Alternatively, you can get your TV Box to automatically power down when it's not in use. For details, see the How do I turn on Power Saver? section above.

Why can't I turn off my X1 TV Box with my remote control power button?
This feature was disabled to address issues that our customers had with keeping their TV and TV Box power synchronized. Because the remote communicates with the TV and TV Box using different signaling technologies, one device would sometimes get turned off while the other was turned on. We do realize that disabling the Off button on the remote control isn't ideal, and we are looking into options to address this issue. In the meantime, you can turn the TV Box off by saying "power down" into your Voice Remote.
