Launching Startups Within Your Company

If your company were to rapidly and unexpectedly expand, could your current structure support the growth? Large and small companies alike are turning to a new trend in company organization where small “squads” or “startups” are created to promote team collaboration and innovation. Leaders from four different and successful tech industries discuss the ups and downs of adapting to this sustainable model to accomplish specific team goals and the broader engagement opportunities that will arise out of these innovations.

Many life experiences have led Nabeel to his current role at Healthgrades, including founding two start-up companies and two non-profit organizations. Nabeel oversees Healthgrades.com, a site dedicated to providing trusted information to help consumers and providers make meaningful connections.

Serving as a leader for KPMG’s Ignition Denver, Kara helps bring innovative solutions to clients and attract diverse talent to the Denver market. KPMG’s wealth of capabilities range from data science and design to functional and digital transformation. Kara's current local account portfolio includes a multi-billion dollar healthcare company and a global financial services firm.

Jeff Casimir, Executive Director, Turing School of Software & Design

Jeff spent 14 years teaching and running schools in both K-12 and postsecondary education. For Turing, Jeff works with outside companies to ensure that students are prepared to meet the needs of growing technical teams in Colorado and across the country.

Tom Wlodkowski, Vice President Accessibility, Comcast NBCUniversal

Tom is been a pioneer in the accessibility field. Blind himself, he has been a champion for people with disabilities, working to improve usability of mainstream Internet, mobile, broadcast and cable television technology. Under Tom's guidance, Comcast launched Voice Guidance on the XFINITY X1 Operating System, the industry's first talking guide that provides people who are blind or visually impaired with independent access to use TV listing guides, manage their DVR, access to Video On Demand and Settings. Tom and his team also opened a dedicated support center for customers with disabilities and created an accessibility lab to drive accessibility research and development.
